Stainless Steel 309S pipe fittings have a balance of superior chemical, mechanical, and physical properties that place them in ideal applications for high-temperature and corrosive applications. From a chemical perspective, 309S has elevated chromium (22-24%) and nickel (12-15%) content, increasing its oxidation and corrosion resistance. From a mechanical point of view, it provides suitable tensile strength (approximately 550 MPa) and yield strength (approximately 205 MPa), as well as moderate elongation and toughness even at high temperatures. Physically, 309S is stable under thermal stress with a melting range of 1380–1420°C and good thermal conductivity, suitable for heat applications.
