Chemically, SMO 254 has high percentages of chromium (20%), molybdenum (6%), and nitrogen, which ensure very good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Mechanically, it has very high tensile strength (up to 650 MPa), high yield strength, and very good toughness even at low temperatures. Physically, SMO 254 is stable at high temperatures and has good weldability, formability, and oxidation resistance and is thus apt for aggressive applications in different industries.
